How To Host A Vision Board Party For FREE

At our very first vision board party, we had four guests. Yes, you heard that right. There were exactly four people who came to our vision board party. One of them was my friend’s boyfriend, so he really didn’t count. 😳

I gotta admit, I wasn’t happy to only have a few people join me. In fact, I thought that vision boards were so transformative I couldn’t imagine why folks were not excited about vision board parties.

Over the next few years, my vision boards changed my life, and my friends wondered how I did it.

I started hosting vision board parties for them.

It wasn't fancy - I wouldn’t rent a space, get speakers, or order food for my BFF’s. Seriously, I wanted to reduce the barrier to entry so they’d want to come so I couldn’t charge them money!

I had to figure out how I’d host a Vision Board party for free.

Yup, you read that right… Absolutely free.

I figured out how to host a fun vision board party for free, and we'll get into that shortly, but let’s cover our bases first.

What’s a vision board party?

An event where you bring together friends, family (and sometimes random members of the community) to create a visualization of what they want to become. It’s an event where folks come together to create vision boards.

Do I need a vision board party to create a vision board?

Heck no! If you really want to create a vision board, just create one at home by yourself.

However, I love parties because the event forces you to sit down and create. You see, people who want to create a vision board procrastinate and never sit down to build the board.

That’s what makes the vision board party useful. There is no procrastinating when you must come together with your friends and family at a specific time.

How To Host a Vision Board Party For FREE

Step 1: Find a free space

One of the most significant expenses you’re going to have is space. Depending on how many people you have at your vision board party, it might be challenging to host them all in a space for free. Here are a few ideas that may work for your group:

  • Library

  • Church

  • Conference room at your office (with permission of course)

Don’t be afraid to host a vision board party in your own home! You don’t have to get fancy with the location. As long as the experience is amazing, that’s all that really matters.

Step 2: Get your materials for free

There are a few key materials that you should have at any vision board party: poster boards, magazines, glue, scissors.

Here's how you can get each of them for free:

  • Poster boards: ask your guests to bring their own

  • Magazines: ask your doctor’s office if can you pick up magazines when they’re done with them. Check craigslist or Facebook marketplace for used magazines. Ask your guests to bring them.

  • Glue & Scissors: Don’t be afraid to steal your kid’s school supplies, my friend! That’s totally legit!

Step 3: How To Get Food for free

One of my favorite things to do with a vision board party, especially when I’m hosting friends and family, is to make the event a potluck. I'd ask everyone to bring one dish and one bottle of wine.

This reduces how much you spend on the food because it’s a team effort, and everyone at the party supplies something.

Step 4: How To Decorate for free

Let's say you want to decorate the place with a few inspirational or motivational pieces. If your event is a potluck, you can also ask everyone to bring one decor item.

This is a lot of fun because people come in with tablecloths, quotes, fun words, picture frames.

You create a community experience where folks are simply excited to build something together before creating their visions.

Most of what it takes to host a Vision Board Party is the confidence to do it. You don’t need to get fancy, pay for a large space, supply a ton of food, or have a giant audience. You can simply start. It is only through the “start” that you can have an impact on the world around you.

In the comments, make a commitment to bring people together. Share the date of your vision board party!
