6 Tips to Beat Procrastination

While I was a busy, busy bee last week, I admit coming down with a powerful case of procrastination recently.  I tell ya…. It got me good.


Procrastination is a serious problem for many people. It can cause stress and anxiety, and it can lead to other problems such as poor work or academic performance, depression, and even WASTED TIME.


Fortunately, there are ways to beat procrastination. Here are 6 tips:


1  Focus on a Positive Goal

Such as better health.  Or relocating to your favorite part of the world.  Or maybe updating your journal or vision board.  If the latter is your jam, set aside some time today to make it happen.

2  Make a List of Your Goals

Create a clear vision of what you want to achieve, and what steps it will take to get there. This will help you to connect work with the bigger picture and motivate you to stay on track.


3  Define Your Tasks

Next, break down your projects into individual tasks. This will help you manage your time and avoid putting off your work.


4  Count To 10

When you feel tempted to skip your work or personal to-do list, count to ten and then commit to finishing it before doing anything else. This will help you to avoid continuing to procrastinate. And give you an incentive to finish it quickly.


5  Set a Schedule

Finally, make a schedule of when you will work on your projects. This will help you to keep in mind when your tasks are due and also to plan when you will take breaks.


6  Remove Distractions

If you're prone to distractions, try downloading an app that will help you to avoid them. These include apps that will nudge you to start working and apps that will help you to avoid Facebook or other social media sites. You can also download a timer that will tell you how long you can work before you need to take a break.
