5 Areas in Life To Set Goals
At this time in the year, I'm sure you're busy kicking butt at some of the goals that you set for yourself. I know we are. But, as we grow and develop our priorities may start to change as well. Maybe the plans that you had for last year are no longer applicable for your life at the moment. Or maybe, you had a drastic change in your life that is forcing you to reevaluate your goals such as pregnancy, death of a loved one, divorce, marriage, or engagement.
You see, the only thing constant in life is change. The good news, however, is that you should give yourself permission to restructure goals as needed. That's why we always set goals in different areas of our lives; to ensure that we are living an intentional life.
There are several areas that you can set goals in which include: personal, education, friends & family, health, career, spiritual and financial. Choose 5 that you want to focus on and set specific goals for each one.
Not sure where to start? check out our latest YouTube series as we discuss some of our top 5.
1. Health & Fitness
The goal of healthy living is to improve the body's functioning in everyday life. This means being able to run up the stairs without getting winded, or enjoy a vacation without having to stay close to a bathroom. Health includes eating well, sleeping soundly and having good emotional well-being. It also involves having good blood pressure, a healthy weight and the absence of disease or injury.
Exercise can help with many physical problems and can support health in general, such as improving blood pressure and insulin sensitivity, decreasing pain, promoting flexibility, strengthening muscles and bones and preventing and managing chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.
You can make fitness and health goals on your own, or you can work with a trainer or other professional who specializes in helping people achieve their goals. To start, a trainer will want to get to know you and understand your current lifestyle and health habits. They will ask you questions such as what your current goals are, how often you exercise, and what obstacles might stand in the way of meeting those goals. They should also perform a full assessment of your body to determine any imbalances or weaknesses that need to be addressed in order for you to achieve your goals.
When setting health and fitness goals, it is important that you consider your current level of health and fitness and set attainable milestones along the way to help keep you motivated. A goal that is too hard to reach will only lead to frustration and discouragement, which can halt your efforts. Instead, try to aim for a reasonable milestone that is challenging but doable, such as adding five pounds to your bench press or running an additional half-mile in a race.
2. Relationships
Cultivating deep connections with family, friends and loved ones is critical for happiness. A healthy romantic relationship is a pillar of life, but so are other forms of connection. Clearly defined goals in this area manifest extraordinary unions.
Taking a few minutes a day to connect with your spouse or kids is one way to make that happen. Other goals might include going on a weekly date with your partner, joining a sports team or volunteering together.
3. Career
Whether you are an ambitious entrepreneur or want to advance your professional skills, career goals can help you find meaning and satisfaction in the field that makes you a living. However, it’s important to set goals across all areas of life in order to feel balanced and happy.
You may want to pursue a new degree, work on your interpersonal skills, or challenge yourself to step outside of your comfort zone more often. Whatever your motivation, setting SMART goals can help you achieve your objectives by breaking them down into smaller tasks.
Developing your career also includes building secondary income streams, eliminating debt, and investing wisely. These attainable goals can allow you to dictate your financial future and avoid succumbing to demoralizing scarcity mindsets.
4. Finances
Financial goals can include everything from building an emergency fund to reducing debt and increasing savings. They can also be related to specific lifestyle decisions like deciding to travel or buy a home. It’s important to note that your goals should be realistic and relevant to your current circumstances. For example, if your goal is to save for a trip in six months, be sure to calculate the cost of your desired destination and determine if you are on track to reach your target by the deadline.
5. Personal Growth
Personal growth and development goals focus on becoming a better version of yourself. This includes developing new skills and enhancing your mental and physical health. Examples of this include pursuing a new hobby, exercising regularly, and learning more about yourself.
Another way to improve yourself is by giving back. This can be achieved by setting a goal to volunteer for a cause that you care about, or by joining social clubs and organizations.
When setting goals in each of these life areas, it is important to make sure they are attainable based on your current resources and circumstances. They should also be challenging enough to motivate you, but not so far-fetched that they feel impossible. Finally, they should align with your values and long-term aspirations. By consistently setting and reviewing goals in each area of your life, you can achieve epic living by design.
